Attendance
Regular, on-time attendance is one of the most important factors in your child's academic success. When students are present and ready to learn each day, they build stronger skills, deepen their understanding, and stay connected to their classroom community. We appreciate your partnership in making attendance a priority.
Reporting an Absence
If your child is absent for any reason, please contact the office each day of the absence either by:
- Calling the school office directly, or
- Sending a message through ParentSquare stating the reason for the absence
In order for an absence to be excused, it must be cleared within three days of the occurrence.

Excused Absences
The following absences are considered excused:
- Illness — A doctor's certification is required beginning on the 4th consecutive day absent.
- Medical or dental appointment
- Funeral — For immediate family members only.
- Court appearance — Must be documented with a subpoena or Notice to Appear.
- Religious holiday or retreat — Not to exceed 4 hours per semester.
- Pre-arranged Independent Study contract — Counted as excused only if all work is completed satisfactorily and returned on time.
- Suspension — For violations of the Discipline Code.
Please note: With the exception of satisfactorily completed Short-Term Independent Study absences, all excused absences still count toward a student's total absence count.
Unexcused Absences
An absence is considered unexcused when it is explained by a parent or guardian — by phone or written note within three days — but does not meet the criteria for an excused absence. Common examples include oversleeping, missing a ride, car trouble, family vacation, visiting friends or family, shopping, or caring for a family member.
Tardiness
School begins at 8:55 AM. If your child arrives after this time, they must report to the office first to receive a tardy slip before going to class.
Arriving more than 30 minutes late is considered a late tardy and counts toward truancy.
Tardiness affects not only your child's learning, but also the learning environment for the entire classroom. For this reason:
- Repeated tardiness will result in a letter being sent home.
- Habitual tardiness will be referred to the Fort Bragg Unified Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
General Information
Releasing Students During School Hours
When picking up your child during the school day, please keep the following in mind:
- All parents and guardians must sign their child out in the office before the student is released.
- Students will only be released to individuals listed on their emergency card.
- Parents with court-ordered custody arrangements should provide a current copy of the court orders to the office to help avoid any confusion or conflict.
- No student may leave school grounds without approval from the school office.
